 I'm looking into buying an 88g.t...but it's an autostick and speed density...It's priced reasonably, but if I get it,I plan on racing it and I don't know much on auto 5.0's.I would probably go mass air if I got it,but I don't want to spend money on a t-5 and do a tranny swap...What do you guys think?Should I hold up and wait on an 89 with a stick? This g.t. is pretty nice and I 'd hate to think about it to long and lose my shot at it...need some advice and opinions. I honestly don't have much knowledge on automatics...thanks..(would like to get it in the high 12's if possible.)

Don't remember off hand what tranny came in the auto stangs? C4 is it? not the toughest tranny around. But an auto is quicker and more consistent than a stick car. Go with a bigger stall convertor (you know the routine, cam, gears, weight etc.....) a manual vb. and an H.D. rebuild.

88 should have an aod.

The C-4 is not the toughest around, but for the strength/weight it is one the better ones. There are a few things that can be tweaker to overcome it's common problems. The aod is decently strong, but after about 80K miles it is a ticking timebomb.

It does...I'll probably just be a little more patient and wait for an 89 with a stick and the mass air..thanks for the feedback fellas..... :)
