connecting rod questions

This sight has been slow. well me and my cuz are rebuilding a 5.0 engine. I want high compression ratio or atleast 9 to 5 with 60 cc heads. The problem is all we can find is pistons with floating pins. We want to use the stock rods. Will a machine shop be able to make these rods accept floating pins. Or do I have to go buy rods. I dont want to have to balance. My cuz knows how to make all pistons weigh what we want. :nuts:

Yes. Often converting rods to floating pins means reaming out the small end and installing a bushing, but this is no big deal for a decent machine shop.

Why don't you want the floating pins? They are much better than the stock, pressed pins. Less overall friction and much less likely to bind up. The stock rods aren't the greatest either. If you are going for a high compression engine, those stock rods will not hold up real long. Especially if it's a 8.0:1 engine and you are trying to run 9.5:1 to 10:1. Increasing compression by one point can almost double the stresses on the rotating assembly. It'd be a better option to call up place like Summit and get thier cheapy, house branded H-beam rods or something. They will be light and much, much stronger than stock.
