Hi ya'll! got some questions! i have a 98 GT V-8 4.6 LITER MUSTANG OK ABOUT FOUR MONTHS AGO IT BROKE DOWN THE WAY IT BROKE DOWN WE THOUGHT THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD GONE OUT ON IT, BECAUSE IT WOULD ONLY GO IN REVERSE. THERE HAS BEEN THREE TIMES IN THE PAST FOUR MONTHS THAT I HAVE GOTTEN IT TO GO INTO DRIVE THE FIRST TIME I HAD TO PUSH IT TO 6000 RPMS AND IT TOOK OFF. THE SECOND TIME IT WAS AROUND 1000 TO 2000 RPMS AND IT TOOK OFF THIRD TIME IT WAS BETWEEN 4 AND 5000 RPMS WELL I DROVE IT ABOUT A QUARTER OF A MILE DID A DONUT CAME BACK THAT QUARTER OF MILE AND WHEN I HAD TO STOP AND TURN AROUND IT WOULDN'T GO BACK INTO DRIVE SO I HAD TO DRIVE THAT QUARTER MILE IN REVERSE! WELL YESTERDAY I DROPPED THE PAN ON IT TO CHECK FOR METAL IN THE OIL PAN. THERE IS NO METAL IN THE OIL PAN! THE TRANSMISSION SCREEN IS NOT CLOGGED, ALSO IT LOOKS AS IF IT HAS A FRONT MAIN SEAL LEAK. HERE IS MY QUESTION IS THERE ANYWAY THAT THIS IS NOT THE TRANSMISSION SEEING THAT THERE IS NO METAL IN THE FLUID. COULD IT JUST BE THE TORQUE CONVERTER OR MAYBE THE PUMP? ANY ADVICE IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED! I AM TRYING TO TAKE THE CHEAP WAY OUT BY NOT HAVING TO BUY A NEW TRANNY RIGHT NOW!!!! ANY ONE ANY IDEAS!?!?!?!?!? :( I WANNA DRIVE MY CAR AGAIN!!! :)

It's probably the transmission and converter, but may be one or the other. Either way, it's got to come out of the car to know, so you may as well plan on both and hope for only one of the two.

cool thanks for that! thats all i needed was a little hope! I sure wish transmissions grew on trees! wouldn't that be wonderful!!!! Just have to cross my fngers and see!
Grape Ape
Might be wonderful... Till ya bumped into one walking under the tree!

it's prolly the lock out. that's what mine did, plus sometimes it would go into drive, but would not shift. i did a 5 speed swap, put a tremec, centerforce clutch and a FRPP alluminum driveshaft. life is much better now. the autos are horribly slow.

yeah well who knows! gotta get something done! gonna try the torque converter! Still trying to find that damn transmission tree!!!! Thanks you guys every bit of advice is very much appreciated! :D

Ok its me again with another scenario! I called a guy this morning pricing a torque converter! ok the guy told me i didn't need a torque converter he is saying the filter is clogged is that possible could my car really be acting like the gears are gone when the filter is clogged??? Someone please help!!!!! this car is going to be the death of me! (running or not)

You would be better off just finding the more common money tree. Then you only have to find it once.

Yeah no shit! i wish i could find something! So any clues to why now that i have brand new transmission that my car now acts like it wants to run but won't! it is driveable if you can stand the constant cutting out and it acting like it is losing power driving down the road i mean its like your going down the road doesn't matter the speed and it kinda sounds like it almost dies then it revs back up! what the hell is it this time any ideas?????????????? piece o crap car is pissing me off :boids: (especially since it isn't a piece of crap at all!)
