hi does any know about 289 pistons have some questions. I have a piston with a broken side lip and having problems finding a replacement here in australia can i use it anyway i have been told it will not make much of a differance it it will only be out a couple of grams. Another option i have to to replace it with a flat top piston and use the other 7 pistons with a grove dome, what will happen ? thanks

you want all your pistons to match, especially with flat top or dome. You will throw the compression ratio off in one cylinder, and that seems to be askign for trouble.

What do you mean by a broken side lip? Are you talking about the top ring land, or the skirt? Either way I would junk that piston.
If you cant find a replacement piston to match your others you may have to buy all 8 of them. The flat tops will make more power than the dished pistons you have already so that would not be a bad idea anyway.
